What is our place in the cosmos? Where does humanity fit in? And what is the human relationship with the world? These kinds of questions can be answered scientifically, religious, philosophically, or poetically. A form of poetry from Japan, called Renga, through a weave of linked images, presents contemplations on what it means to be a human being in the vast cosmos in which we dwell. The new book, Microcosmos: The Art of the Solo Renga is devoted to this poetic form. Containing new work by Jim Wilson, as well as translations from older Japanese sources, Microcosmos takes us on a journey of discovery, a journey of images and relationships that opens our hearts to our place in the cosmos.
Jim Wilson has written Renga for about 35 years. He published the first English language magazine devoted to the form. He is a poet, musician, and is currently a member of the local Quaker Meeting.
